List of sources used to compile these lists.

Many sources have been consulted to compile these lists, so I cannot claim much credit, apart from bringing all the names together in one lump. The major sources are listed first and the less important and corroborative sources are last.

  1. "Notokakteen" by N. Gerloff, Jozka Neduchal and S. Stuchlík
  2. "Rod Notocactus" by S. Stuchlík
  3. Chileans 1996 field number list compendium. including the 1996 third supplement.
  4. Horst and Uebelmann field number list, 1984
  5. Walter Rausch field number list, 1975.
  6. Jörg Piltz field number list, 1982.
  7. Karl Heinz Prestlé field number list, 1984.
  8. Wolf-Rainer Abraham field number list, 1988.
  9. "Kakteen in Sudamerika band 1" by F. Ritter
  10. "Notocactus 6" by J. Neduchal
  11. "Die Gattung Notocactus" by G. Schäfer
  12. "Internoto" 1981-1996
  13. "Notocactus" by T. Mace
  14. Alfred B.Lau field number list, 1983.
  15. and many other books/journals/plant lists etc.

Additional sources may also be listed in each specific field list, if a particular article or letter has been of special importance.

The format of the references

I have given the name of the plant that equates to a certain number and only given locality information where it has been commonly used as part of the plants name. However, if you are interested in a particular field number then please feel free to contact me, either by email to: Webmaster@mfaint.demon.co.uk or you can use a form.

If there are many numbers for a particular collector then a bank of links will be displayed at the top of the page, to aid location. The last number that is given is displayed last. If you are looking for a number that is larger than this please Let Me Know and I will try to locate a source for an updated list. (The HU - Leopoldo Horst & Werner Uebelmann is one that I know is out of date.)

There may also be an additional note giving further information or citing any disagreements in the sources.

A note about accuracy of the references

I have checked the accuracy of the field numbers in all of the sources and where there is any disagreement it is noted. A note of a disagreement is not meant to imply which of the sources is correct, only to remind me that further work is needed.

As "Rod Notocactus" by S. Stuchlík is the most recent source of collection numbers I posses, I have assumed that it is also the most accurate, except where an "official" field number list is available. In which case the name in the latter is used. If you know better please Let Me Know.

Miscellaneous field numbers

Here are listed field numbers of people who only have a few numbers for Notocactus taxa and odd numbers that I have found in the literature.
