Many of the following numbers have the form: "= KPR x". This form is used for numbers that were assigned by Karl Heinz Prestlé and which are not used by Hugo Selmar Schlosser.
This is what Hugo Selmar Schlosser had to say about this:
SCHL - field numbersAlthough it may seem odd, some SCHL. - field numbers have been published which do not originate from me ! These have been published without my knowledge and without any prior consultation with me. I believe, however, that the author acted in good faith, but it is nevertheless time to put the record straight in view of the considerable confusion which has been and may continue to be caused.
I must admit to being at fault in remaining silent for so long, but the collector involved is a close friend and I had no wish to offend him. Meanwhile, enquires regarding the offending numbers have become so numerous that I must now make public the true position.
Too much space would be needed to state every number here, so I am summarising the position as follows:
The numbers for Notocactus from 150 to 165 inclusive and from 210 to 221 inclusive all originate from me. These are authentic, and many have been published with specific names.
Numbers from 166 to 209 inclusive are not mine, and I think that it would be best not to use them, because they are not true field numbers.
Any other numbers or nomen provisoriae which might appear in any publication, and presented by any author other than myself, are unacceptable.
I have been informed that the numbers SCHL. 210, 211 and 212 have been distributed as seeds and possibly also as plants, but these are numbers which have not been allocated by me, nor have I distributed any material under such numbers. The only exception is SCHL 211 Notocactus ferrugineus Schlosser, which exists as a small number of authentic seedlings in the collections of a few well known people.
