Translated from the Latin
Body solitary, globose, napiform root, ca. 40-55 mm wide and 60 mm long, visible
part green merely 25 mm long, tubercles 4 sided, to ca. 6 mm long, equal, top
obtuse, keeled below, the elongated areole on the underside. Epidermis green or
glaucous-green, at maturity the keel is concealed. Areole with white wool, later
glabrous greyish-white. Spines when juvenile 5-8 only lateral, in adults
disappearing. Areole at maturity with 1 (rarely 2) centrals, curved upwards,
pale-yellow, 2-3 mm long. Flower funnel-shaped, ca. 18-22 mm large. Perianth
segments long lanceolate ca. 12-18 mm long, entire, acute to obtuse, outer
mid-stripe greenish-red, inner dark pinkish-red to carmine, margins paler.
Fruit urn-shaped, ca. 5 mm long, aeguilas, dehiscing longitudinally at
maturity, drying out. Seed ca. 0.9-1.1 mm large, testa verrucose, black, hilum
paler.
Locality: La Hincada, San Luis Potosi, México.
This taxon was originally named T. schmiedickeanus var. panarottoi, but was not validly published. Namely the type was not listed. See ICBN Articles 37.3 and 37.4.
The new name is for Edward F. Anderson who first collected this plant, but miss identified it with T. klinkerianus in his 1986 revision of the genus Neolloydia (Bradleya 4: 1-28, 1986.).
