Description of Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp. flaviflorus

Body cylindrical, with a beet like root, on average to 30 mm long and 10 to 20 mm broad, slate grey-green. Spines not distinguished between central and radial spines, 4 to 6, one pointing downwards, the others curved sideways and to the top, wiry, twisted, longest up to 30 mm long, in new growth dark brown (in cultivated plants bright- to yellowish brown), later becoming grey. Areoles small, round, in new growth woolly, later becoming bare. Flowers about 15 mm long, the outer perianth segments yellowish green with reddish brown mid-stripe, inner perianth segments pale greenish yellow. Style pink, with 5 white stigma lobes; Filaments with yellow anthers. Fruit elongated oval, to 10 mm long. Seeds drop shaped, dark brown, with many small tubercles.

Locality: Santa Rita, San Luis Potosi, México.
